For a long time, it was a shortcoming that Schlegel did not have his own installer to lay overhead lines and connect customers to the grid. This gap was then filled by his son Georg Schlegel. At the age of 19, he completed his apprenticeship as an electrician at the end of October 1924. His studies to become an electrical engineer only began in March. During this period between the end of his apprenticeship and the start of his studies, he founded the installation and overhead line construction department within his father's company.
After completing his studies, Georg Schlegel initially worked in Cologne. He and his family were bombed out there and returned to Dürmentingen. He was then sent to the Eastern Front as a soldier before being recalled to the research company for machining technology in Ebingen.
From there, he prepared the foundation of his own company. On April 1, 1945, the installation and overhead line construction department officially became the company “Georg Schlegel”, which was also entered in the commercial register. The initial four-man operation has since become a globally active family business that produces components for controlling machines. The pushbuttons, switches and emergency stop devices are sold in over 80 countries on five continents.
In 2025, the company will be celebrating its 80th anniversary. But the roots for this were laid more than two decades earlier.
